The Salvation Army of Durham, Orange, and Person Counties
Description

The Club provides after school care (Monday-Friday, 3:00PM-6:00PM) for over 100 children on a daily basis. Volunteers can join in these efforts by tutoring children who need some extra help with homework and test prep, literacy efforts, mentorship, athletics, and more. Volunteers must be able to pass a criminal background check and complete a mandatory Safe From Harm training prior to serving. The community benefits greatly from The Family Store (Monday-Saturday, 9:00AM-5:00PM). Donations are sold at a very low price, allowing families who may not be able to shop elsewhere to purchase affordable, good quality clothing. Volunteers help with these efforts by assisting with donation intakes, tagging and pricing items, hanging clothes, and more. Individuals and groups (up to 15) are welcome to serve at The Family Store. Every Friday (7:30AM-11:30AM), volunteers are welcome to come to The Salvation Army to help serve/give away free food that has been donated by a generous community partner. Frozen meats, canned goods, pet food, and more are given out. Volunteers assist with setup, helping clients select foods, restocking, and cleanup. The program begins at approximately 9:00am and usually ends by 11:00am, or earlier if the food runs out. Must be 18+ to volunteer at Boys & Girls Club or Family Thrift Store.
