APPSTATE-STARTALK Chinese Language Program
Description

A project funded by the National Security Agency; Mission: to increase the number of U.S. citizens learning, speaking and teaching critical-need foreign languages, and to prepare them for federal workforce. A three-week virtual program (July 12 to July 30, 2021) & a three-week residential program (July 11 to July 29, 2022) Rising high school juniors and seniors and college freshmen and sophomores enrolled Students are from the High Country, where Appalachian State University is located, and its surrounding Southern Appalachian region, especially Western North Carolina and East Tennessee.

Volunteer Activities
Helped recruit for the program; assisted language instruction; led daily tutorials; held Chinese language tables; organized cultural events; helped 50 campers to improve cultural & language skills; acted as a liaison between students and the program administration; designed program T-shirts; participated in professional development activities.
