Sister Cities promotes mutual understanding and cooperation between US cities and cities around the world. The goal is to promote world peace through exchange programs in the areas of education, medicine, the arts, librarians, civic government officials, business. Durham has 8 Sister Cities in Tanzania, Mexico, England, Greece, Russia, Japan, Romania, and China. The partnerships are signed by the Mayors.
